Review: She Went All the Way by Meg Cabot

She Went All the Way

Release Date: December 1st, 2002
Number of Pages: 384 pages

Success hasn't spoiled screenwriter Lou Calabrese -- it's just given her a taste for luxury. And it's put her in some bizarre situations -- like in a helicopter en route to the wilds of Alaska, sharing too-close quarters with the last man she wants to be with: Jack Townsend! Once a sexy nobody whom Lou helped make a somebody, Jack's just been dumped by a high-profile Hollywood airhead -- who's eloped with Lou's longtime love! So what else could go wrong?
Well...

Their pilot could try to shoot the most adored man in America. They could crash land in the icy, mountainous middle of nowhere. And at the worst possible moment, when survival should be their only consideration, Jack could start wondering if maybe he wasn't a wee bit too hasty for not giving this sexy screenwriter a second look -- while Lou could start noticing how superstar Jack is kind of hot after all ...

This book was truely amusing and exciting. I enjoyed it very much. Lou's way of expressing herself is sarcastic and witty.

The book is written from different perspectives. Mostly from Lou's and Jack's but also from: Frank Calabrese, Vicky Lord, Eleonor Townsend and a few more. I thought it was interesting to read from all those point of views.

I got this cozy feeling of the book, even though it is not a cozy book at all.

The book follows Lou and Jack as they in the middle of nowhere go from practially hating the other person's guts to actually like each other , will it grow to something more ? I think we all know all know the answer to that question. She Went All the Way was predictable. But it was funny, that made me ignore the fact that I had already figured out what was going to happen. The dialogs are mirthful, the characters pretty much made the book, so to speak.

I do not think this is one of the best books written by Meg Cabot. But I have not read any other books of hers, so I cannot make a comparison. This is a typical Chic-lit, an very enjoyable one too.

Poison Study: The magical adventure and excitement you almost can taste. A Yelena Zaltana novel (Study,#1)

Release date: march, 2007

Number of pages: 416

Format: paperback

She's been there in the dungeons a long time, and now she must choose: A quick death or slow poison....

My arms were heavy with chains and the only thing holding me upright were the guards at my sides, I was led in to a room that looked like a office with a desk and behind the desk a man.

I squinted at the man behind the desk, he was wearing black pants and black shirt with two red diamonds stitched on the collar, the man wore the uniform of an adviser to the Commander, I shuddered at the thought of the tasks the Commander must give him.

His sapphire-blue eyes scanned me, they widened in surprise. "A woman?" He glanced at me once more and said, well Yelena this might me your lucky day"

I looked at him wondering what he possibly could mean.

"You've been tried and found guilty of murdering General Brazell's only son, Reyard, I suppose your going to protest the conviction"?

"No, sir" I whispered my voice thin after the long months of not using it, "I killed him"

He glanced at me once more and said "Yelena, I'm going to offer you a choise. You can either be executed, or live and become the Commanders food taster".

I gaped at him, he had to be joking. "A fool would refuse the job" I said my voice still thin.

His sapphire-blue eyes piercing me when he said "You would be risking your life everyday for as long as you live".

At this statement my mouth closed and I fell silent. I was a sentenced killer, why would they trust me?

"What shall I tell the executioner?" the man asked.

I took a long breath and said "I am not a fool".

I simply loved the book, it was so capturing and realistic. It kept me wondering what would happen next, in which directions would she go and who would she choose....
Poison study is the first in a trilogy, and I would say it was the best out of the three! The book seemed a little depressing at the beginning but trust me it changed :D the main character Yelena learns alot during the first book and has to face several trials such as betrayal, longing and is forced to accept things different than she thought. So when she learns of new mystical things and finds her part in them, she must not only face them but also hide them.

I recommend Poison Study for ALL book readers (maybe not the younger ones) but it is a book you can relate to even in the most odd situations, take my word for it and read it, it truly is remarkable!

Review: The Boyfriend List by E. Lockhart

The Boyfriend List: 15 Guys, 11 Shrink Appointments, 4 Ceramic Frogs and Me, Ruby Oliver (Ruby Oliver #1)
Release Date: September 26th, 2005
Number of Pages: 229 pages
Format: Paperback

Ruby Oliver is 15 and has a shrink. She knows it’s unusual, but give her a break—she’s had a rough 10 days. In the past 10 days she:
lost her boyfriend (#13 on the list),

lost her best friend (Kim),

lost all her other friends (Nora, Cricket),

did something suspicious with a boy (#10),

did something advanced with a boy (#15),

had an argument with a boy (#14),

drank her first beer (someone handed it to her),

got caught by her mom (ag!),

had a panic attack (scary),

lost a lacrosse game (she’s the goalie),

failed a math test (she’ll make it up),

hurt Meghan’s feelings (even though they aren’t really friends),

became a social outcast (no one to sit with at lunch)

and had graffiti written about her in the girls’ bathroom (who knows what was in the boys’!?!).

But don’t worry—Ruby lives to tell the tale. And make more lists.

I liked the book, it was fun and interesting! I sometimes got frustrated though (due to the protagonist's way of acting and thinking). It was an entertaining read and I'll read the sequel when I've got the time. ^ ^
E. Lockhart's way of writing in this book was lovely ! with lots of funny footnotes. The footnotes could be a bit sidetracking, but I guess that was the point sometimes. Either way I liked it.

The Boyfriend List revolve about Ruby Oliver an ordinary teenage girl. Ordinary as in having a shrink and panic attacks.
Ruby goes to a small elite school in Seattle where everything circles around boys and gossip. Ruby and her friends are reasonably popular, but that changes for Ruby when that thing on that party with Jackson happens. Ruby loses all her friends, and everybody else too. She becomes a leper, an outcast and a rumoured slut.

Link
One thing about Ruby is that she can be insecure at times, which prevent her from doing the thing she wants to do, such as asking what she wants to know. Instead of keeping shut and assuming the worst. though I'm pleased to inform you that during the course of the book Ruby grows as a person, and discovers things about herself she didn't know she had in her.

I think this book is about overcoming obstacles in life, and to believe in yourself...

I'd recommend The Boyfriend List to all YA lovers as I thought it was fun :D. It kind of resembles Just Listen by Sarah Dessen. But Just Listen is a bit deeper and more emotional and not as funny written as The Boyfriend List.
